FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP)
Program provides utility payment assistance (ranging from $150-$300) for utility deposits, gas, propane, water or electric bills.
Hours: Mondays through Fridays 8am to 5pm.
The LIHEAP automated telephone system helps clients schedule a home energy assistance appointment and hear more information regarding the program and/or required documentation needed for an appointment. Appointments are scheduled up to two weeks in advance. When those are full, new appointments will open up daily or in the event of cancellation.
The toll-free service is available 24/7. Callers who require special assistance can connect directly to a live operator by following the phone menu prompts, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The number is (424) 389-4290.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year.
To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.
You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.

Yes, they also help with deposits. You will need to bring a valid photo id, #SS numbers for all persons living in the household, income & electric and bills, shut off notices or deposit info.
