  • About Fort Pierce Utilities Authority

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority established the Project CARE which is a nonprofit program that has the purpose of providing emergency temporary assistance to the most vulnerable individuals or families in the community that are at risk of losing their utility service.

The Project CARE is completely funded by people in the community, either by utility customers who make a one-time donation or customers who give their donation through their monthly utility bills. The participation in the program is voluntary and tax-deductible. All donations are collected to assist local families in payment of their electric bill.

The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority collects all funds and then gives them to Mustard Seed Ministries which is a local nonprofit agency that assists the community. Mustard Seed is the entity in charge of overseeing the Project CARE and ensuring that each applicant deserves and meets the criteria to receive this assistance.

For more information, call a Customer Service Representative at (772) 466-1600.

    Note:

    • Donations might also help with water, sewer, natural gas, and garbage bills. Contact office for more details.
    • Amount donated goes entirely to customers in need.
    • Households are helped once in a twelve-month period

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year. To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.

You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
