Baker County Neighborhood Service Center(SGACAC) - Newton provides income-eligible households an annual financial benefit ( $400) toward their home heating costs.
Baker County is served through the Mitchell County NSC.
Emergency services are provided to help people experiencing loss of income or unexpected expenses to pay their rent, mortgage, utilities, deposits, food, and shelter, to prevent disconnection, minimize malnutrition, and avoid eviction and homelessness.
Individuals are required to document all household income and expenses and demonstrate the ability to pay all future household bills without assistance.
LIHEAP Eligibility will be verified:
Verification of age for all household members
Verification of Social Security Numbers for all household members
Verification of all income coming into the household (all members age 18 or older) for the past 30 days
Recent heating bill with the service address and account number listed
Additional items as requested
Applicants must call to schedule an application appointment or be placed on the LIHEAP waiting list.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year.
To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.
You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
