  • About Boyd County CSBG - LIHEAP

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Programmed helps low-income households to reduce the cost of household energy through two components - subsidy and crisis.

Contact the Big Sandy Area Community Action service office in your province to start your application process.

The information you will need to provide:

      • The names and social security numbers of all household members.

      • Most recent heating bill or verification that heating costs are included in the rent.
      • Proof of total household income from the previous month.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year. To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.

You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.

I had applied for Liheap and Columbia Gas does not even have a pledge of payment. I'm trying get a hold of community action office in Cattlesburg to no avail of anyone returning my message and I have left several. I have a termination notice scheduled. In 6 years I had NEVER had this problem of non assistance for the winter months until now. And I appreciated all the assistance! I'm in dire need of assistance now with my SSDI is my income.
